Wood floor repairs done properly

Replacing a wooden floor is expensive, and usually unnecessary. With the right timber, careful joinery and a well-matched finish, we repair the damaged areas and keep everything that is still sound. We work on period homes, modern apartments and busy public buildings across Esher and the surrounding areas.

Many repairs are carried out just before a full restoration. Once the floor is sound, floor sanding takes everything back to fresh timber so new and old wood finish as one surface. If the floor only needs a refresh afterwards, a maintenance re-oil may be all it takes.

Our floor repair services

We tailor the repair to the construction of your floor:

  • Parquet floor repairs - loose, hollow or missing blocks re-bonded or replaced, and herringbone or chevron patterns rebuilt.

  • Floorboard repairs - replacing damaged original boards, re-fixing loose ones and tidying old plumbing and electrical cut-outs.

  • Engineered & solid wood repairs - damaged planks cut out and replaced, gaps closed and water-damaged sections rebuilt.

How we match new timber to old

The hardest part of any repair is making it disappear. Wherever we can, we use reclaimed timber of the same species and size, because new wood rarely matches the colour of floors that have aged for decades. Where new timber is the only option, careful sanding and staining bring it close to the surrounding floor.

Typical repair jobs

  • Creaking floors and boards that move underfoot

  • Loose parquet blocks and failed adhesive

  • Water damage, staining and cupped boards

  • Botched past repairs and visible patches

  • Deep scratches, burns and impact damage

Why floors get damaged

Before we fix anything, we work out why the floor failed. Damp subfloors, slow leaks, blocked air bricks and heavy point loads are the usual culprits. We check moisture levels with a meter, look at the subfloor and explain what we find in plain English. If something needs a plumber or builder first, we will tell you honestly rather than cover it up.

What happens after the repair

Once the floor is sound, you can decide how far to take it. Some customers add gap filling to cut draughts, or a stain to give the room a new look. Please note that gap filling is excluded from our service guarantee, because wooden floors move with the seasons and the structure of the building. Everything else comes with our three-month guarantee on restoration work.

FAQ

Common questions

Can you match my existing floorboards?

In most cases. We use reclaimed timber of the same species and size wherever possible and tone it in during finishing.

Do I need to sand the whole floor after a repair?

For the best match a full sand and refinish is recommended, but we can often blend small repairs with a local finish.

Is it possible to stop floorboards creaking?

Yes. Creaks are usually caused by loose boards or worn fixings, which we secure without damaging the floor.

How long do repairs take?

Small repairs are typically finished in a day; larger areas take longer, and we confirm timings with your quote.

FAQ

Questions about Wood Floor Repairs

All questions
How long does floor sanding take?

Most single rooms are sanded and finished in one to two days. Larger areas, repairs or extra coats add time, and we set out a clear schedule with your fixed quote.

Can I stay at home during the work?

Not at all. We work room by room, and most customers stay at home throughout. Our water-based lacquers and low-VOC oils have very little odour, so day-to-day life carries on.

What do I need to do before you arrive?

Please clear the room of furniture, rugs and small items before we arrive. We can help move heavy furniture if we know in advance. Our preparation checklist has more tips.

How are your prices worked out?

The cost depends on the size of the floor, its condition and the finish. Our prices page shows typical starting prices, and we confirm everything with a fixed written quote.

Can you quote from photos?

For many jobs, yes. A few clear photos and the room sizes let us give a guide price quickly. We confirm it with a short visit before work starts, so the final quote is fixed.

Do you guarantee your work?

Our floor restoration comes with a 3-month service guarantee. If something is not right with our workmanship in that time, we come back and put it right. Gap filling is excluded, because wooden floors move with the seasons — see our service guarantee for the details.
