Esher
Herringbone Hallway Restoration
A worn Esher hallway parquet restored without replacing the floor.
About this project
Years of busy family life had left this oak herringbone hallway grey and worn. Several blocks near the front door had worked loose and a few were missing altogether.
We lifted the loose blocks, cleaned off the old bitumen and re-laid them with modern flexible adhesive, sourcing reclaimed oak blocks to replace the missing ones. Sanding followed in multiple directions to keep the pattern crisp and flat.
Three coats of matt water-based lacquer gave a tough, natural-looking finish that copes with muddy shoes. The repaired blocks now blend in completely.
