Parquet Floor Repairs
Specialist parquet repairs in Esher: lifting blocks re-bonded, missing pieces replaced and patterns restored. We keep the original floor wherever we can.
Bringing damaged parquet back together
Parquet floors are built to last a century, but the bitumen or adhesive underneath does not. Changes in humidity, underfloor heating and old water leaks can all break the bond between the blocks and the subfloor. The good news is that most parquet can be repaired rather than replaced.
What a parquet repair involves
Removing loose blocks, cleaning them and re-laying them on fresh adhesive
Replacing broken or missing blocks with reclaimed parquet of the same species and size
Rebuilding herringbone, chevron and basket-weave patterns, including borders
Levelling and repairing the subfloor where needed
Matching blocks to your floor
Aged oak, teak and merbau take on a deep colour that new blocks simply do not have. We hold reclaimed stock and match each replacement block to its neighbours before fixing it. The final step is usually parquet sanding, which levels the floor and blends the repair completely.
When to call us
If blocks sound hollow, move underfoot or have started to lift, it is worth acting early. Repairing a few blocks now stops the problem spreading across the room. Our guide to parquet restoration explains the common causes in more detail.
Saving the original blocks
We treat every original block as worth saving, because no reclaimed timber matches it quite as well. This keeps the colour and character of the floor and keeps the cost of new timber to a minimum. If the subfloor is part of the problem, we level or repair it before any blocks go back down.

Questions about parquet floor repairs
How are your prices worked out?
The cost depends on the size of the floor, its condition and the finish. Our prices page shows typical starting prices, and we confirm everything with a fixed written quote.
Is parquet sanded differently?
Parquet runs in several directions, so we sand it in stages at different angles. A final pass with a fine-grit buffer removes swirl marks and leaves an even surface ready for oil or lacquer.
What do I need to do before you arrive?
Please clear the room of furniture, rugs and small items before we arrive. We can help move heavy furniture if we know in advance. Our preparation checklist has more tips.
My parquet is stuck down with black bitumen — is that a problem?
Many older parquet floors were laid on bitumen adhesive. It is not a problem for sanding, but loose blocks need cleaning back and re-fixing with a compatible adhesive. We check this during the survey and include it in the quote.
Can you repair a water-damaged floor?
Often, yes. Light marks often sand away, while cupped or blackened boards are replaced and blended in. The floor must be fully dry first, so we take moisture readings before starting.
Can you fix parquet with missing blocks?
In nearly every case, yes. We re-glue loose blocks, replace missing ones with matched or reclaimed timber, then sand and finish the whole floor so the repairs disappear. Find out more about parquet floor repairs.
